“I Can Get It Off My Tax”

I can’t imagine the actual number of taxpayers or would be taxpayers who have been spending the last week planning or trying to plan how to reduce their tax bill for this current financial year, but I’m sure there are a lot.

One of my friends, normally a happy, laid back individual, used to take on board a completely different personality around the last week of June. This perpetually cheerful bloke became a worried and anxious person, with a frowning face and hunched shoulders as he searched for any expenditure he could claim “off his tax”.

I suspect, though obviously I can’t quantify, that thousands of our fellow Australians are making the decision this week to spend some money for no other reason than to get a tax deduction.

I hope it gives them pleasure. I’d prefer to keep the money and spend it on something frivolous.
