Before You Throw Out Grandma’s Love Letters…
Fans of The Antique Roadshow TV series are frequently amazed at the estimated value placed on some of the oddest or apparently useless collections of articles or documents. Expert opinions they may be, but useful only for insurance purposes as most of the owners have no intention of selling what they regard as priceless family memorabilia. They shrug their shoulders and say “it’s not for sale”.
Popping up regularly are books, cards and letters whose values escalate dramatically because of the signature on the flyleaf or on the bottom of the letter.
If you have an autograph book with Don Bradman’s signature in it, or you find a stash of love letters to Grandma from her secret and famous long-lost admirer, leave it to your grandchildren. The proceeds may pay for their 18th birthday or their wdedding.
